Hey, Congress? Do Your Job!

The Story: President Bush gives a speech to Congress in which he states "Now is not the time to burden our economy with wasteful Washington spending."

Congress has put itself on a holiday vacation by continually putting itself in recess while the December agenda is bogged down by spending bills and other legislation.

Bush wants Congress to get to work. Especially on his $200 bil war-spending bill.

Dems say that they will not vote for any such bill without some kind of an exit-strategy attached to it.

My 2 Cents: For once, they are both right...but not on all counts.

On Bush: He's right that Congress needs to get their butts back to work. They are wasting taxpayer monies. It isn't as if they work all year long. They can take vacation during their normal vacation times. He's way off on expecting an open ended spending bill. This is why government has checks and balances.

On Congress: The Dems are right about Bush's war-spending bill. Why should taxpayers continue to fund a "war" without benchmarks for success or any sort of plan at all? He says we're winning and that the troop surge is working...but just who and what determines that? More troops are being killed and injured every month...is this a measure for success? Islamo-fascists are causing more and more problems all over the world. Is US presence in Iraq and Afghanistan helping to stop this?

The "War on Terror" isn't a war that can be won by fighting insurgents in Iraq. Terrorists are everywhere. The US can't be everywhere at once. How about we quit trying fight nice and get this war over with?

There is no such thing as a "nice war," people. Let's get the press and civilians out of these hot-beds of islamo-idiocy and let our military do its job.

*Sigh*
