Stupid Email in My Inbox: "ESP Website, Ben Alexander"

The Story: I received an email from a former coworker. Again, I don't know why people insist on sending religion-oriented emails.

Here is the body of the email:
"Classification: UNCLASSIFIED
Caveats: NONE

Ben Alexander is a speaker that talks out on the occult, he has first hand experience, because he used to be a "spiritualist", then he was saved and has spent his life since then educating people on the very real dangers of spiritual warfare and demons, etc...
Tonight he will be speaking at 6:30 at C4 (Capital City Christian Church), about encounters with demons and how to recognize them and how to safeguard children/teens/yourself against them. This is not a sermon, but a lecture. Following the lecture he will have a Q&A time.
His website, ESP (Exposing Satan's Power) is below.

The message is ready to be sent with the following file or link attachments:
Shortcut to: http://www.espministries.com/index2.htm"

My 2 Cents: Now, I don't have any problem with religion of any kind. I'm cool with God as whatever image someone chooses to worship. They are all one and the same to me. So, when I first read this email, I was not bothered in the slightest.

Then I clicked on the link.

It took me a while to decide if I wanted to go on a thousand word rant on this, but I'll spare you all and make it short and sweet:

This guy is nuttier than a Baby Ruth candy bar. If you want a good example of extremism and bullying from a mainstream religion, this is it.

Please, peruse the site and leave some comments. I'd love to hear what people think.

Of course, since no one seems to read my blog (yet), I'll probably not get any comments. But I can hope!

Missing Chicago Chick Found

The Story: The body of Alma Mendez, a woman missing from Chicago may have been found. The is no positive ID yet...but the body fits her description and was found in the area where she was seen jogging.

Apparently she left her husband 3 weeks prior to her disappearance.

My 2 Cents: If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck....

I hope they nail the jerk who did it. Why can't men just cry and eat ice-cream and get over it like women?

Will edit as more info is available.

French President Sarkozy Shows Class

The Story: French President Nicolas Sarkozy respectfully refuses to comment on his soon-to-be ex-wife in an interview with "60 Minutes" interviewer Leslie Stahl. See the story and clip here: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071029/ap_on_re_us/sarkozy_stormy_interview_6

My 2 Cents: Pres. Sarkozy has shown himself, thus far, to be an upstanding leader for France. His behavior in this case simply cements my opinion of him: He is a good man, and a real man. He was rudely pressed about his personal relationship and responded very politely that he would not discuss his wife in the interview. If someone asked me about my personal life in this manner I would not have been half as eloquent.

I completely understand this poor man's disgust in how he was treated in the interview. "60 Minutes" was once a well-respected news reporting entity. Now it is just another pop-culture driven media circus hell-bent on exploiting the latest trash. Unfortunately, "60 Minutes" still uses it's good name to reel in normal people who couldn't care less about this kind of garbage.

So the poor guy is getting a divorce. What does that have to do with the price of bon-bons in Paris? Leave it be. There are more important questions to ask.

Sanctions on Iran

The Story: The US sanctions Iran; Iran raises oil prices.

My 2 Cents: Who cares? Let them. They'll be the next people we go to war with anyhow. This whole situation is reading very like Iraq back in 2002.

And then it'll be "well, it's a good thing we were already in Iraq! It's just a hop, skip and jump over to Iran! Isn't that convenient?!"

Convenient for Pres. Bush anyway...remove the focus from failure and on to a new war.

The Long War just gets longer.

Stupid Email in My Inbox: "Warning! Anti-Christian Movie to Be Released Soon!"

The Story: I got an email in my inbox this morning from a co-worker. Why they are sending me religion-oriented emails is beyond me, but whatever.

I'll cut-and-paste a small portion...it's much longer, but it won't take you long to get the idea:

"This is an FYI that a terrible, anti-Catholic (anti-Christian) movie called the 'Golden Compass' will be coming out in early December, aimed at children and labeled as a family movie. This movie is based on a series of books by an atheist British author (Phillip Pullman) whose goal in writing the books is to be the 'Anti-Narnia' series and to lead children into atheism. "

My 2 Cents: Emails like this always make me roll my eyes. And then want to know just what they are talking about...without the "spin."

I'm going to read it. From what the reviews say, it's better than Harry Potter. Only about 6% of the over 1300 reviews on Amazon are negative. That has to count for something.

My bet is that, just like with the "Harry Potter" series, the zealots are blowing things out of proportion. This book wouldn't have such good reviews if it were so evil...and Scholastic wouldn't publish it for "13 and up." Come on...Scholastic is the same company the publishes "Clifford the Big Red Dog."

The book has been out for over 10 years. If it is so terrible, why haven't we heard about it before?

I'll let you know how it goes.

Here's the link to Amazon, if you're curious: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw/103-5100818-8275851?initialSearch=1&url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=The+Golden+Compass I think I'll buy the trilogy. $16 isn't too bad for 3 books with reviews as good as these.

Dirty Old Man Tries to Clean Up By Cutting Off His "Junk"

The Story: A convicted Illinois sex-offender attempts to castrate himself with a fillet knife because he has felt the urge to "touch and hurt children" again. He is partially successful (manages to flush one testicle down the john), but has to call for help due to profuse bleeding.

My 2 Cents: Good for him. I think the government might consider offering offenders surgery to help them get this done. We all know that these perverts never get "better" and that prison simply teaches them new ways to offend. So much for rehabilitation.

Hopefully the hospital finished the job. And gave the poor sap some pain meds. Ouch.

OJ Simpson and Michael Vick

Story: OJ is being charged with coercion, Vick with dog-fighting/animal cruelty. The guy that sold Vick his dog(s) has also been convicted.

My 2 Cents: These guys are losers and do not deserve airtime. They also don't deserve blog time. Moving on.

Cuba

The Story: Fidel Castro is at Death's door (how long will he last?). Pres. Bush addresses Cubans (who are sick of oppression by the current dictatorship) about their opportunities once Castro is dead.

My 2 Cents: Pres. Bush is doing what he can to preserve his legacy. No President wants to be remembered badly. At the end of his term he'll do his best to be remembered as The President Who *fill in the blank with something positive*. Fuel prices will drop significantly near the end of Pres. Bush's term. Cuba will be working on having democratic elections about that time as well. Pres. Bush will quit waffling about withdrawing our troops from Iraq because they'll be needed in Iran. The focus will be taken off Iraq.

Yay! Pres. Bush wasn't such a bad president, was he? Look at all the nice things he did!

Yeah. Okay.

More Wildfire News

The Story: Apparently some jackass is setting fires in So. Cal.

My 2 Cents: As if the Firefighters over there don't have enough on their plate. This guy should be forced to watch his own home burn to the ground.

Wildfires in CA

The Story: As if you don't know. TURN ON THE NEWS! Southern Cali is burning....fires fueled by the Santa Ana winds.

My 2 Cents: It seems that everyone is doing a very good job here. Minimal casualties, very little looting. It's a nice change from what happened in New Orleans.

It seems that disaster response has improved drastically.

The irritating part is that everyone feels the need to compare this disaster to Hurricane Katrina. It's not the same in any way.

Daddy's Belt

The Story: A Guy on FOX News in trouble for spanking his kids with a belt. Not certain on all the details yet...I'll edit later, if needed.

My 2 Cents: Is it discipline, or abuse?

I say it's all about the delivery.

I don't use a belt when disciplining my kids. I may have spanked them (open palm, bare butt) a total of 2 times in the last 4 months. Spanking is used only for situations where they have put themselves into danger and are in need of a real eye-opener (ie: Running into the road).

I Have...

An opinion on everything. This is where I'm putting it. No spin, no fluff. From brain to fingertips, this is my 2 cents. Enjoy.
